  4. Greenwood (C) & (J) MAP OF THE COUNTY OF BERKS, from An Actual Survey made in the Years 1822 & 1823. Hand-coloured engraved map, size approx. 23" x 27", with a vignette view of Windsor Castle. Decorative title, Reference to the Hundreds, Explanation Table, small inset map of detached area of the county. Linen-backed, paper rather dusty, with some staining in bottom margin, line of rust spots just below top border, some rust spots in blank area at bottom of map and in Explanation table, tears in top right hand corner, reaching about 1" beyond border, stuck down on to linen. July 4th, 1829. £38.00

  10. Donne's NEW AND CORRECT PLAN OF BRISTOL, CLIFTON AND THE HOT WELLS. Engraved by J. Cary. Engraved surface of plan (not including list of Churches, Public Buildings etc. under it) approx. 9" x 15", plus margins, traces of folds, three small holes at points where old folds meet, Some faded early ink annotations 'By B. Donne 1809' written under title within the title cartouche, Victoria Square and the Paragon added in ink. Some slight browning in margins at extreme edges of paper. Published as the Act directs June 1st 1809 by B. Donne, Master of the Mathematical Academy in Montague Street, Bristol. £70.00
    'This is a very clear plan and comprises a list of nearly 100 churches, chapels and public buildings. It stretches from the Hotwells to the Feeder Bridge in the Marsh, and takes in Cotham and Kingsdown.... ' See Pritchard's Old Plans and Views of Bristol, Vol 48, 1926 Bristol & Glos. Archae. Soc. Donn advertises his services after the Publisher's imprint: 'N.B. Mr Donne gives private Lessons in Writing, Geography, Use of the Globes, the Mathematics &c'

Christopher Consols SECTION ON THE ENGINE LODE Plan, in ink, with a little shading, size 30" x 45", linen backed, showing the engine house and adjacent buildings in elevation, with the engine shaft and other shafts. Some light shading, some rough figures in pencil, cross-course marked. No scale bar or other reference. Rusty stab holes along top edge where one attached to roller, edges rather ragged, dusty overall. c1840. £80.00

Area round coast and estuaries shaded yellow, sea shaded 1" from coast, parkland coloured green, main roads in brown.   21. Lostwithiel ST AUSTELL LISKEARD ROAD A390 Cornwall County Council. E. Collcutt, County Surveyor. Map so titled, printed on linen, size 27" x 59, scale 1/2500. Shows Lostwithiel and surrounding fields, road shown in red making 'U' bend across river and railway from North Street to Burn's Cottage. Folds. Three (burn?) holes in blank area. n.d. 1950's? £22.00

  22. Penzance, Lizard Head ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Sheet XXXII and XXXIII. Scale 1" to 1 mile. Sheet XXXIII size 11" x 16", Sheet XXXII size 12" x 17", the two separate sheets with borders all round, some of them pasted on, linen-backed and folding into marbled wraps, inserted in red cloth slipcase, with Stanford label, key map on verso. Parkland, main roads, hand-coloured, half inch lines of yellow and blue wash around coast. With geological symbols. c1860 (paper water-marked 1858). £36.00

  23. St. Ives PLAN OF THE LANDS IN THE ESTATES OF HELLESVEAN TROWAN AND AYR in the Parish of St. Ives in the County of Cornwall, The Property of Edwin Ley Esq. 1841. Finely drawn manuscript map in ink, coloured in yellow and buff, on paper backed with linen, size 22" x 30". Scale 3 chains to 1 inch. There are two plans, the paper being divided horizontally, each with scale bar and compass rose, the top one is of Trowan, showing the sea and Towan Cliffs, buidings, fields, owners of land, as far inland as the road from St. Ives to Trevalgar, the bottom one showing Ayr and Hellesvean, buildings, fields, each plot numbered. There is a small inset plan of Trowan Common scale 6 chains to 1". Slight dustmarking at right and left edges. 1841. £170.00

  24. Truro & St. Austell ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP 1" to 1 mile, Fifth Edition, Sheet No. 143. Blue and black Ellis Martin Cover with hiker, cloth-backed. 1939. £8.00

  25. Wadebridge WADEBRIDGE R.D.C. WATER Map of District. Scale 1/25000. Two maps, each size 16" x 56", linen backed and folding into cloth boards, labelled 'Central Portion' and Southern Portion. Covers Padstow, Wadebridge, Warleggan, Bodmin, Newquay. Maps marked with various pipelines, mains etc, in different coloured inks. 1946. £25.00

  26. Wendron MAP OF PORKELLIS MOOR in the Parish of Wendron. Manuscript map in ink and full colour, scale 2 chains to an inch. Size 43" x 36", linen-backed, tears in paper along original vertical central fold, and some wear along original horizontal fold, with no loss and not affecting drawing. The map has been professionally re-laid on its original linen backing. At some point the map has been trimmed at an angle across the blank area top left, and very slightly at the left hand edge, affecting the first letters of the word '...eer Bridge', however the drawing of the rivers and streams ends well before this point. Some light browning and dustmarking in parts, mainly in the blank areas, but the colouring is very fresh and bright. June 1843. £260.00
    A very finely drawn map with attractive shading in four colours, of areas labelled 'Penfield', 'Greyhound', 'Black Lion', 'Hetch and Ross'. Shows rivers, springs, pools, numerous Stream Works, boundaries between the Fee and the Duchy, owners of land, roads, footpaths, adits, shafts, buildings. Mines marked are: Wheal Hendra, Wheal Flanders, Wheal Growan, Wheal Foster, Garidna, Boderluggan, Wheal Fat.

  27. Drigg, Ravenglass ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Scale 1" to 1 mile, size 24" x 17", linen-backed and folding into 8vo cloth endpapers. Parkland, roads and coastland hand-coloured. c1870. £15.00
    About two thirds of the map is sea area.


  28. Fowler (Henry), Surveyor LITHOGRAPHED PLAN OF CARLISLE CITADEL STATION of the line from Carlisle signal box no 1 to no 13. Fully hand-coloured, scale 2 chains to 1", size 21" x 86", plus one section size 15" x 13" covering the line running south towards Maryport. Titled 'Carlisle Citadel Station'. Dissected and mounted on linen, size of sections 21" x 10", folding into marbled endpapers, rubbed calf boards. Shows buildings, streets, goal, reservoir, warehouses, etc., coloured to show lands belonging to various companies (Caledonian, North Eastern, Joint Committee etc.) Front board detached, small light foxing spots throughout. 1881. £170.00

Fully hand coloured in different shades along contours to show land at different heights from 100ft to 1250 ft, going up in 100ft sections. 1862. £50.00

  57. Bower (J) Borough Surveyor MAP OF THE BOROUGH OF GATESHEAD Shewing the Ward Boundaries and Polling Districts. August 1888. Overall size approx. 22" x 18", plus margins, scale 6" to a mile, mounted on linen, signs where once folded, overprinted in red to show the wards, one ward outlined in blue. 1888. £34.00

  58. Dixon (Thomas) Land-Surveyor, Darlington PLAN OF THE TOWN OF DARLINGTON IN THE COUNTY OF DURHAM. 1840. Engraved plan, size approx. 36" x 24", scale of 5" to 15 chains, plus margins, 10" tear from bottom into map, old repair on verso with tape, another 3" repaired tear at top right. Right hand edge of paper with small tears, small stab hole in paper below title, without loss, bottom edge of plan slightly dusty. The plan was used (probably in 1850's) to draw lines of waterpipes, in red ink, and a note in red ink at the bottom says 'The figures in red show the Pressures from the Bottom of the Service Reservoir'. Two or three later buildings, such as St. John's Church in the east, have been added in red. There are also a few light pencil calculations. R. Martin, Litho. 26 Long Acres, London. 1840. £140.00
    A detailed map showing the layout of the buildings, gardens, etc. names of roads, and the names of the larger houses.


  59. Hartlepool, Wolsingham ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Sheet 103. Scale 1" to 1 mile, size 24" x 36", dissected and mounted on linen, folding into 8vo cloth wraps. Roads, railways and parkland hand-coloured, county borders shaded in pink and yellow. Small area on Wolsingham Moor coloured red. Small split in linen at one fold, and some browning of linen at folds. c1880. £28.00

  60. Ryhope, Silksworth ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Sheet No. XIV. Scale 6" to 1 mile, size approx. 23" x 35", linen-backed. Map hand coloured geologically, and much geological information added in neat black lettering (e.g. 'Strewn with limestone', 'sand dark-coloured at surface' etc.), . In top margin is written 'Geological information copied at 28 Jermyn Street from the original manuscript map 20th September 1890. The original map geologically surveyed by W. Howell.' Map published 1861, MS information added later. £50.00

Birmingham & Oxford Railway FOLDING MANUSCRIPT PLANS of the line, in two volumes, each plan in ink heightened with colour, on tissue, backed with linen, size approx. 56" x 10", 10 plans in each volume. First volume lacks both boards, but with cloth spine having printed label, second volume lacks spine and front board. Each plan titled on front section, with number (the first plan is 'Begbroke to Bletchindon 68 to 71', the last plan is 'Yardley to Birmingham 125 to 127'), each one with GWR stamp to verso. n.d. probably 1860's. £250.00
    The plans show owners of land, water features, buildings etc, with various notes as to deeds, etc. The second volume has far fewer notes of owners etc.

    With circles in pink wash drawn at every mile radius around a house named 'Silverlands', which is approximately 1 mile south-west of Chertsey. The lines at 10, 20, 30 and 40 miles are in a thicker pink line. An interesting an unusual map.
