  6. Hampstead Norreys AN ACT for Confirming, Establish, and making effectual certain Articles of Agreement.... for inclosing and dividing the several Commons, called Ealing Common, Ealing Green and Cooks Hill in the Parish of Hampstead Norreys.... 5pp. 1778. £20.00

  7. Annals MANUSCRIPT CHRONICLE or Annals of Bristol, 1222 to 1687, listing events relating to the city ranging from ships launched, entertainments for visiting Royalty, almshouses, churches and public buildings erected, notable crimes, riots, and epidemics, to the price of wheat on the Bristol markets. The annals were presumably copied in the early 18th century (some leaves being water-marked 'GR'). The last 2 leaves have entries in a later hand, one an extract about Brennus and Belinus from a contemporary work, and an account dated 28th Sept. 1745 detailing the treasure taken by two Bristol Privateers transported to London in 45 waggons. 4 leaves have a list of Mayors and Propositors on verso. Written in a neat hand, with contractions, written on one side only, plus later MS title page "A Chronicle of the City of Bristol from 1222 to 1687 A.D. From the Tyndall Library at the Royal Fort Bristol." 34 leaves, small folio. First leaf ragged at edge with loss of a few words, paper skillfully re-inforced down right-hand side. Late 19th century binding, qtr. calf, marbled boards, modern indelible ownership stamp inside front board. c1715. £320.00
    This manuscript was previously in the collection of the Tyndall family at the Royal Fort, and later belonged to E.F. Eberle. Loosely inserted are 2 letters to him, one from W. Norton Matthews thanking him for the loan of the MS, 1934, and one from the University librarian, 1936, making suggestions as to its date and mentioning Evans' use of certain unidentified manuscript sources such as "Alderman Haythorne's MS" when preparing his "Chronology".


  8. Bristol Assizes TRIALS OF THOMAS STONE AND MARY ANN BURDOCK, Commenced on Thursday, the 9th of April, 1835. Single sheet, printed on one side only, size approx. 22" x 16", folded, a few neat repairs to verso, where split at folds. No date, or printer. (1835) £40.00

Hot Well CERTIFICATE OF GUARANTEE Printed certificate testifying that 'this is the Real Bristol Hotwell Water, filled under my Inspection at the Original Spring', with description of the special corks and an illustration of the seal (the name 'S. Powell' in the centre). With MS receipt to Capt. Trafford, signed by Powell, for two dozen bottles of Hotwell water, and one Hamper. Size 4" x 6", small stab hole at top margin.   31. Bessow LICENCE or Grant to Collect and lay Ochre on a plot of Ground in Bessow, Edward Browne, Francis Vyvyan and others to Thomas Beer, Mariner. On paper, three large folio pages, 5 wax seals. Small stains on second page where seals off-set. 1860. £28.00
    The land was part of the Manor of Bessowe and there is a note of a Court Baron of 1861 extending the lease. Grants permission to 'dry the said Ochre thereon and dress and render to same fit for sale'. Exempts mineral and hunting rights.


  32. Bodmin LEASE FOR A YEAR of all the Tithes of Corn and Grain yearly arising.... out of the Rectory of Bodmin and the Lands and premises situate within the parish and Borough of Bodmin and the Rectory, George Collins Browne of Woodley Cottage to John Wallis of Bodmin.   33. Butters (R) MAP OF CORNWALL copper engraved map size 5" x 3", plus margins, coloured in outline, scale 20 miles = 1 inch. Cornwall shown vertically with Devon border at the top of the page, titled simply 'Cornwall'. c1803. £45.00
    A scarce if rather inaccurate map, from Butters' 'Atlas of England'.

  37. Greenwood (C) & (J) MAP OF THE COUNTY OF CORNWALL, from actual Survey made in the Years 1826 & 1827. Hand-coloured engraved map, size approx. 23" x 27", with a vignette view of St. Michaels Mount. Short split at foot of central fold. Framed and glazed, Hogarth frame. July 4th, 1829. £130.00
    'the work is a magnificent example of the improved techniques and a scientific approach to the art of map-making. The Cornwall map is a reduced scale version of the 1 inch map of 1827.... in truth the map can stand on its cartographical merits alone.' Quixley's Antique Maps of Cornwall and the Scilly Isles.

Descriptions and illustrations of Rock Drills, (shown being used underground), the 'Holman' and 'Cornish' Drills, Air Pipes, Air Receivers, Winding Engine, Pumping Engine, Angle Bob, Waggons, etc. Red wraps, gilt decorated, wraps loose and faded, some brownish staining at top of last six leaves and pink staining from red cover inside back wrap and on last leaf. 1901. £85.00

  44. Kea COUNTERPART LEASE of two Stamping mills, Burning house and premises situate at Bessowe, Edward Davies Browne, Francis Henry Vivian and others to William Paynter. On paper, 2 large folio pages. Refers to those two stamping mills called the 'Six head stamps' together with the stamps plot and burning house, in the Manor of Bessowe, number 47 in the survey book of the Manor, together with the usual streams of water. 1866. £22.00

    Concerns properties in parishes of Perranarworthal, Kea, Gwennap. Includes tenement of Chycoose, Cusgarne; tenement at Terrandean; Miners' Arms Inn, Higher Bissoe, part of Greenwith, etc. at Perranarworthal.


  59. Rashleigh (Philip) LETTER dated Menabilly 12th Feby. 1806, to Messrs. Goodall & Turner, Merchants, London. 2p (23 lines in a neat hand), 4to, folded, with integral address panel on adjoining leaf and Fowey Postmark. Small hole in blank leaf where seal broken, slight darkening of paper at edges. He says he is pleased that they have sold the oil, that 'Cowling (a ship's Captain) has been safe at Fowy some days, & my Porter is every Bottle safe in my Cellar', and remarks on a new Brewery in the county which is so good that "Ld Falmouth has sent from hence several casks for his own use in London". He then goes on to express his doubts about the new Cabinet of Ministers 'how long such a Medly can last seems very doubtful: I hope the K- has Friends enough among them to keep the Crown upon his Head and the Empire safe from Bonaparte.' He signs himself 'Your most obedient Servant Phil Rashleigh'. 1806. £45.00
    Philip Rashleigh, antiquarian and mineralogist, was M.P. for Fowey from 1765 until 1802. He died in 1811.


  60. Rashleigh (Philip) LETTER dated Menabilly 5th Decr. 1799, to Messrs. Brook Watson & Co. (London). A brief note of 6 lines expressing his concern that the poor harvest in the county will case great distress, and asking the firm to send him, 'in order to make a little relief.... a thousand weight of rice by the Mary, Cowling Master'. Single leaf, 4to, small pieces torn from 2 corners, folds. 1799. £30.00

  61. Redruth COUNTERPART LEASE of a piece of ground formerly part of Cardew Common in Redruth, James Buller to Simon Kneebone. Large vellum sheet, wax seal. Reserves to Buller right to clay, marl and minerals, and to cut down trees, erect engines, stamping mills etc. 1864. £13.00
    The land was part of the Manor of Tolgus.

Lempriere and Carnon Valley Ltd. 4pp., typed, sm. folio, with manuscript sketch plan of creek on waxed cotton, coloured, scale 1/2500, size 13" x 26", scale. Printed forms with entries in manuscript, giving name, age, school, literacy, parents, if known, (with occupation and address), date of entry, 'History up to the Date of Entry', subsequent voyages and character on board ship, destination and in what capacity.     The 'history' of the boys is very detailed, e.g. 'William Payne really had a belly-full on the streets, going in the mud for half pence at Hungerford and stealing fruit at Covent Garden. Slept in ruins'. James Sergent 'was born in a travelling Hawker's van. Father died 5 years ago....' William Hopkins 'returned and found his parents gone. 3 months on the streets - holding horses, cleaning out cab yards etc. Slept mostly in omnibuses. Sent to prison for 7 days for running off with a horse and trap....'
