    COMMONWEALTH ACT

  1. Almshouses, Poor Knights AN ORDINANCE for the Continuance and Maintenance of the Alms-Houses & Alms-Men called Poor Knights and Other Charitable and Pious uses, Whereof the late Dean and Canons of Windsor were Feoffees in Trust. 13pp., small folio, plus cover leaf. Disbound. Act of Parliament. Black letter, with coat of arms on cover leaf and at head above title on first page, last leaf loose and browned at edges, cover leaf slightly spotty.     The lands whose revenues were to be used to support the foundation were mainly in the West Country.

  3. Annuities AN ACT for the Relief of Fulke Emes, Gent., and others who had elapsed their times, either for Paying their Money or Naming their Nominees, for Purchasing Annuities; And also for Relief of Sir John Mead... and Dorothy Ireland and others in respect of several Tickets for Payment of Annuities, and of several Million-Lottery and Malt-Lottery Tickets, and Exchequer-Bills, and Debentures to the Army, which have been Burnt or Lost. 12pp, disbound, plus cover leaf. Attractive woodcut initial letter. 1704. £25.00

  4. Australian Colonies AN ACT for the better Government of Her Majesty's Australian Colonies 22pp., small folio, disbound, Act of Parliament. 1850. £15.00
    At the end is a two-page Schedule giving sums for Governor, Chief Judges etc. for Van Diemen's land, Victoria, etc.


  5. Bankruptcy AN ACT for the Relief of the Creditors of Thomas Pitkin, a Bankrupt, and for the Apprehending of him, and the Discovery of the Effects of the said Thomas Pitkin and his Accomplices. 6pp, disbound, Act of Parliament. Black Letter, plus cover leaf, floral woodcut initial. 1704. £28.00
    Pitkin amassed vast amounts of cloth 'to the Value of Seventy thousand Pounds...' but to prevent the execution of the Bankruptcy order 'hath withdrawn himself and fraudulently conveyed all his Goods and Effects into the hands of his said Accomplices... to the great Discouragement of Trade...' A House of Commons Committee inquired into abuses committed in relation to the bankruptcy, and a report was published in 1706.


  6. Berkshire and Hants Railway AN ACT for making a Railway from the Berks and Hants Railway at Hungerford to join the Line of the Wilts, Somerset, and Weymouth Railway at Westbury and Devizes. 8pp, disbound, Act of Parliament. 1848. £17.00

  7. Buttons AN ACT to regulate the making and vending of Metal Buttons, and to prevent the Purchasers thereof from being deceived in the real Quality of such Buttons. 8pp., plus cover leaf, sm. folio, disbound, Act of Parliament. 1796. £12.00

  8. Chimney Sweepers AN ACT for the Regulation of Chimney Sweepers and Chimneys. 4pp, disbound, small folio, Act of Parliament. 1840. £12.00

  9. Cornwall and Plymouth Wines AN ACT to amend an Act.... for enabling His Majesty to lease Lands belonging to the Duchy of Cornwall, and to authorize the Sale and Purchase of the Prisage and Butlerage of Wines in the Ports of the County of Cornwall, and in Plymouth. 5pp., small folio, disbound, Act of Parliament. 1824. £10.00

  10. County Rates AN ACT for the more easy assessing, collecting, and levying of County Rates. 20pp., small folio, plus cover leaf, disbound, Act of Parliament. Black letter. Some pages slightly darkened. Attractive woodcut initial letter. 1739. £15.00

  12. Gaming AN ACT for the more effectual preventing of excessive and deceitful Gaming. 10pp, disbound, Act of Parliament. Attractive woodcut initial letter with cherubs etc. 1739. £16.00

  13. Gold and Silver AN ACT for better preventing Frauds and Abuses in Gold and Silver Wares. 17pp., small folio, plus cover leaf, disbound. Black Letter, Act of Parliament. Attractive woodcut initial letter with birds etc. 1739. £22.00
    Sets out the stipulations for marking gold and silver under the Act of Edward I, and later Acts, and the new regulations to be enforced by the Company of Goldsmiths.


  14. Great Western Railway AN ACT for authorising the London and South Western Railway Company to make new Railways and deviations... for the sale or amalgamation... with the undertaking of the Company of the Salisbury and Dorset Junction Railway.... 56pp., held at edge with staples. 1883. £16.00

Warminster, Bath, Frome and Beckington Roads AN ACT for repairing and widening the Road from the Town of Warminster, in the County of Wilts, to the City of Bath, in the County of Somerset; and also the Road from the Town of Frome, in the said County of Somerset, to the Town of Beckington, in the same County; and for repairing the Road from Heytesbury to Anstrow Hill.
