  1. Advent WILL of John Hosken, Gent., of Advent in Cornwall. Contemporary attested copy on 1p. large folio. Folded, with docket title. Will dated 1672, copy slightly later. £30.00
    Leaves money for the 'reparation of the Church of Advent', and to the relief of the Poor of the parish, to his brother the tenements of Higher and Lower Trewynt in Advent, and a tenement called Tressallott and Garway in Advent. Thomasine Carnsew was to get 21 ewe sheep.


  2. Allom (T) DOLCOATH COPPER MINE Camborne, Cornwall. Steel engraving, size 4" x 6", plus margins. Shows machinery and buildings of the mine with women breaking ore etc. Margins rather spotty, waterstain top right corner, not obtruding onto engraving. c1850. £7.00

MICHAELS MOUNT IN CORNWALL is humbly Inscrib'd to Sr. John St. Aubyn Bart., the worthy Proprietor and on of the Representatives in Parliament for that County by his much oblig'd and very humble Servants Saml. & Nathl. Buck. Fine copper-engraved view, size 12" x 32", including title and key at bottom of view. Fine close-up, dramatic view of the mount, castle flying flag, with Penzance and Paul to the left, Ludgvan and the town of Marazion with church and house, to the right; wall of the Mount harbour visible on the right with masts of ships docked there, numerous ships and rowing boats, and fishing boats. Small coat of arms, decoratively-printed dedication, and key to 13 places below view. Slight trace of central fold. This engraving has been professionally cleaned. Saml. & Nathl. Buck delin et sculp.     Shows only a small strip of coast, from Hartland to Cambeak.


  15. Buller family GENEALOGICAL TREE OF THE 'BULLER FAMILY' the descendants of John Francis Buller of Morval and Shillingham in the County of Cornwall. This tree is prepared from a smaller tree of 1865 and from M.S.S. at the British Museum & Herald's College... and information obtained from members of the family Anno Domini 1896. Hand-coloured lithograph showing an actual tree with trunk and branches, the leaves coloured in blue, green, pink and yellow according to the four generations. Large shield of Armorial bearings of John Francis Buller bottom left, small pedigree bottom right showing the connection with Edward I. Size approx. 42" x 34", linen-backed and mounted on wooden roller, with wooden stretcher at top, green silk ribbon edging. 1896. £150.00
    Covers the period 1685-1880's.


  16. 'C.A.G.' FAREWELL TO ST. MICHAEL'S MOUNT Royal Baths, Penzance, June 14th, 1872. Poem in eight stanzas printed on one side of an 8vo sheet, with a heading in large type, black border similar to a mourning border. Pasted to a sheet of paper which has some newspaper cuttings on the back. Le Lievre, Printer. 1872. £20.00
    The writer bids farewell to the Mount, as he is going home to die, and will look on the scene no more: 'But "Never more" is plainly writ/Upon this Church, these rocks and towers/'Tis strangely sad these friends to quit/Companions of my quiet hours'. Le Lievre was a Guernsey printer, and the writer was presumably returning from Penzance to Guernsey. It could be that the 'G' of the initials points to a member of the Guille family.

    HAND-COLOURED TO SHOW ADITS AND LODES

  17. Carnbrea, Illogan, Pool ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Sheet LXIII.2 and sheets to the south, scale 1/2500. Zincographed & Published at the Ordnance Survey Office Southampton 1880. Size approx. 50" x 38", backed with linen and mounted on mahogany roller. Hand coloured to show houses and mine buildings, water courses and small areas of water at the mines, and many adits and loads, with level measurements, in black, greeen, yellow, purple and blue. The names of the major lodes 'New North Lode', 'South Lode', 'North Tincroft Lode' marked in large decorative lettering. A small area near the stream works in the East is coloured pink and marked 'Leased to the Tailings Co.', and a larger area between Pool and Wheal Tehidy has been coloured and marked with a boundary dated 31st Aug. 1897. The names of various shafts not indicated on the O.S. map have been added in ink. Paper slightly ragged and chipped at edges at top 6" of map. With embossed stamp of Camborne School of Mines and date '4.10.07'. Surveyed 1877, Reprint 1900. Annotated with mine information c1907. £120.00
    The main mines concerned are Wheal Tehidy, East Pool & Agar, Barncoose, North & South Crofty. The area covers Paynter's Lane End in the North to Penhellick in the South.


  18. Cary (C & G) MAP Covering Forrabury, Mawgan Point, Helland. Scale half an inch to one mile, size 19" x 25", plus margins, outline colouring, coloured border to map and inset map, scale bar. With inset of Scilly Isles and Land's End, size 11«" x 17«". Some edge tears and light browning due to damp. July 1st, 1820. £28.00
    Sheet no. 8, which formed part of a map of the whole of England.


  19. Central Cornwall Railway Company MAP size 10" x 13" showing railway network with proposed routes in red, with table comparing mileage on narrow and broad gauge lines. Some edge tears. c1865. £17.00

Checkhouse Common RECEIPT signed by Henry Paynter affirming he has received four pounds from John Hill for the annuity in consideration of his house and garden and also '1/16th share of Checkhouse(?) Common... and from the sale of Five Tons of Copper Oar to be raised in the said Common... to pay Five pounds yearly instead of four pounds'. 1p, folio. signed and witnessed, blank conjoint leaf. 1757. £18.00

  23. Cornish Chamber of Mines SILICOSIS COMPENSATION SCHEME cyclostyled copy of a letter from the Home Office to the Chamber responding to their representation to limit the scheme. 2p, sm. folio. 11th Dec. 1928. £10.00
    'The Secretary of State is not quite sure what your Chamber means by the handling of dry material. He is advised that the process of breaking or crushing of the ore containing rock or any handling or moving incidental thereto give rise to dust.'


  24. Cornish Post SUPPLEMENT to the Cornish Post and Mining News, April 30, 1898. Single large sheet, broadsheet size, being a Paper read at Camborne School of Mines by W. Hopwood 'Modern Winding Appliances'. Printed on one side only, folded. 1898. £6.00

  25. Cornwall Boiler Co. ARCHITECT'S DRAWINGS Two detailed scale drawings on waxed cotton, in ink, one with some colour, size 22" x 18", showing 'Section through Rivetting Tower', 'Detail of Gate', and larger scale detail of top of rivetting tower, the other size 23" x 34", showing 'South Elevation' and 'West Elevation', of rivetting tower on a long building of two stories with 5 windows on ground floor, eight on the first floor, and a single storey extension, and a separate building with round window. Both signed by architects. Sept. 1892. £50.00

  26. Cornwall Minerals Railway Co. MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS AT A SPECIAL BOARD MEETING 22nd July 1873. Manuscript, 5p. signed by Chairman, size 15" x 9", plain wraps with MS title, horizontal fold, wraps rather grubby. Pasted in at relevant points are 3 notices, one giving notice of first Ordinary General Meeting of the new company, for electing Directors, etc., notice requesting Shareholders submit old shares for new issue under the 1873 Act, and covering letter explaining the conversion to a Parliamentary Company. 1873. £80.00
    'From a personal inspection of the Works on the above Railway made within the last few days, I am satisfied that the Contractor, Sir. S. Peto, has so far advanced the work as to justify me in recommending that the payment which would be due to him under his Contract on the 7th proximo be made.... W.H. Thomas, Engineer'. The railway was revitalised under the speculator W.R. Roebuck 'he formed the Cornwall Minerals Railway, authorized on 21 July 1873' a number of standard gauge mineral lines 'all opened after feverish activity on 1 June 1874'. Grade and Ruan Minor TITHE RENT CHARGE 1878-9. 6 double-page spreads, folio, entries in ink in printed columns for Tenements, Occupiers, Rent Charge in Apportionment, Receipts, Arrears, etc. Lacks wraps. Manuscript title for Ruan Minor Section, but not Grade Section. One double-page spread for 'Rents' at end. Page edges dusty. 1878-9. £36.00

  33. Grade GRANT of a freehold tenement in Kugar in Grade, John Medlyn and Philippa his wife to John Randle of three acres of land, two gardens and a dwelling house at Kugar. Two vellum sheets, size 20" x 28", wax seals. Small hole where two folds meet, with loss of two words. Affixed is a certificate relative to acknowledgement of deeds by married women. 1853. £16.00
    Includes the right to take away sand and seaweed from Poltesco Cove.

Three booklets, each with 3 double-page spreads, sm. folio, ruled in columns for 'Tenants', 'Tenements', 'Amount Received' etc. Plain paper wraps with MS title, very ragged and stained, 1853 booklet lacks wraps. Edges of pages stained. 1850-3. £40.00
    Properties include in Constantine: Bosahan, Watercourse to Wheal Vyvyan Mine, dwelling house part of Bridge tenement, and in Helston: House and garden in Meneage Street, field near the Beacon, dwelling house near Cross-wolla Turnpike Gate.


  40. Helston (Borough of) AFFADAVIT OF DEBT of Elizabeth Rogers of Helston, widow, that Thomas Burgess of Sithney, Engineer, is justly indebted to her for £3.6s.6d. for goods sold to him.     Says that he was born in Breage and moved to St. Erth, then went to sea in a Bristol trader for 3 years. Later he 'prest and put on board His Majesty's Ship Chapman'. Later he joined the Cornish Militia.


  44. Helston, Scilly THE EXAMINATION of Esther Bonstow alias Rowe... touching the place of the last legal Settlement of James Rowe her illegitimate son... Folio sheet, 7 lines of printing with ms inserts, followed by 23 lines of manuscript. Signed with her mark by Esther, and by two Justices. 1826. £36.00
    Explains that at sixteen she moved from Helston to St. Mary's, Scilly, where she was married to Richard Rowe, a soldier, and lived for five years. They then moved to Plymouth where she had a son. Her husband left her and she applied for relief, but at Tavistock, the place of her husband's Settlement, it was discovered that at the time of their marriage on Scilly he already had a wife.

  110. St. Just in Roseland AUCTION HANDBILL advertising sale in Truro of properties in St. Just in Roseland, Veryan, Cornelly, and Cuby. Size 12" x 8", folds. Describes 6 Lots, with occupiers, including cottage called 'Towns Close' at Trethewell, land called Reskevus in Veryan, 'Wallish Down' etc. Untidy notes of prices in pencil in margin, three lots marked with large ink cross. Attached is a crude plan on tracing paper of Lot 6, and a solicitor's letter. 1874. £18.00

  111. St. Martin in Meneage DEPOSITION AND EXAMINATION of Mary Michell the widow of Richard Michell. Manuscript, 1p., 4to. 11 lines. Signed with her mark, but not signed by Justice. 1818. £14.00
    Says that Walter Priske her natural child now 4, was born in St. Martin in Meneage and that Richard Michell of Constantine with whom she afterwards intermarried was the father of Walter Priske.


  112. St. Mawes PLAN SHEWING BUILDING SITES AT ST. MAWES Nichs. Whitley, Truro, Nov. 2nd. 1869. Manuscript plan in full wash colour on paper size 39" x 20", Scale 3" = 2 chains. Shows coastline, rocks etc., castle, two quarries, well, proposed and existing road. Scale bars, large compass rose. Shows five large house on plots along the coast near the castle, houses blocked in pink, garden paths etc. show, and other houses further east along the road proposed to be widened, each plot marked with a letter... together with... PLAN, size 15" x 18", hand coloured, scale 1" = 20 ft., showing row of houses east of the Old Malt House, some labelled with name of lessee or occupier, size of frontage noted, etc... together with... 'Sale of Property belonging to J.S Spry, to the Honble. Mrs Dudley Ryder'. Large scale plan on paper size 15" x 16", signed 'H. Tresawna 1908'. Together with a letter, 3p., folio, from Whitley to W.   119. Surveyor of Weights and Balances, Hundred of Kirrier INFORMATION AGAINST AND CONVICTION of William Pascoe for giving false weights. 2 pages, small folio, printed with manuscript inserts. On the left page is 'The Information and Complaint of Benjamin Moon Surveyor of Weights and Balances.... ' that he visited the shop and found weights deficient 'contrary to the Standard of the Exchequer'. On second page is the conviction and sentence at the Petty Sessions for Helston. Signed by the Surveyor, and 2 J.P.'s, folded with docket title... together with... similar items for John Blake, William Stirrup, Joseph Veysey, John Polgase, Ann Pascoe, Thomas Blee. 7 items altogether.   122. Tresco, Isles of Scilly THREE PHOTOGRAPHS one named in the plate 'Gibson, Penzance', the other two 'Gibson, Scilly;. Size each approx. 6" x 8", mounted on album leaf, some darkening of card of mount and a few foxing spots on mount. The first view shows Dracena Avenue at Abbey Gardens, the next a line of four Dracena in an area of formal flower beds, line of agaves in distance. On the other side of the leaf is a view titled in pencil on the mount 'Aloes in bloom, Abbey Gardens.' showing a group of 16 large aloes. 1880's. £35.00

  127. Truro ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Composite map, scale 25" to 1 mile, showing the western part of Truro, covering the area from Victoria Place as far west as Malabar, and from Nansavallan to as far north as Pencoose. Two sheets pasted one above the other, but with the right hand side trimmed. Water features, buildings and main roads hand-coloured. Some brownish marks from glue where the two maps overlap. First edition. 1880. £30.00
    The map has been used to mark a railway from near Treyew Mills northward through the west part of Truro, and another one branching off near the Cattle Market.

    Includes half-page report from the Engineer, R.P. Brereton. 'The relaying of the Permanent Way on portions of the Main Line, by substituting longitudinal Fish-jointed Rails for the Barlow Rails is in progress, upwards of two miles having been laid...'


  132. West Looe LEASE of a tenement with houses, orchards and gardens in West Looe, bounded with the lands of William Mellon and Edward Luckes, and land on the Commons of West Looe, Edward Luckes of the parish of Talland, yeoman, to William Musselwhite of the Borough of East Looe, Mercer, and Johan Musselwhite his wife, and John Reede of East Looe, yeoman. Vellum, 10" x 15", lacks seal from tag. Signed by W. Musselwhite. Decorative initial 'T' with small flowers growing from the base. On the verso of the deed are some contemporary 'doodlings' of decorative initials. Some small rust spots in top half of deed, signs that the words 'John Reede' have been inserted on top of another name which has been rubbed out. Some darkening of vellum in places. 1608. £65.00
    The rent was to be 20s a year, and there was a condition that the tenant should not cut down any oak, ash etc.
