Steel (James) Printer THE FARMER'S REAL FRIEND. Copy of a Letter addressed by an influential Landed Proprietor to a Yeoman of "Canny Cumberland." Broadside, in ten paragraphs, printed on one side only, size approx. 20" x 12", couple of small holes where once folded, few short tears with neat repairs with archival tape to verso. ¶ The letter is a long and detailed argument against the imposition of a fixed scale of duty on imported corn, in place of a sliding scale. 'I am still of the opinion that the most ruinous consequences to the Farmer would result from letting loose upon the consumption large masses of Corn at once.... ' The writer had apparently given evidence before a Commons Select Committee on Agriculture in 1833. He also mentions that he himself had 'sold beef at Manchester, at fourteen pence per lb. to common Weavers, in the year 1815'.
Westward CERTIFICATE OF REDEMPTION OF THE LAND TAX for John Taylor of Stonecarse, Clerk. Printed certificate with coat of Arms, manuscript insertions, size 15" x 17", signed by the two commissioners. Form printed on verso for 16 installments, headed 'Consols' in MS, with last installment completed. Refers to parcel of land in the Township of Blencogo in Bromfield, and and tenement in the Township of Stoneraise in Westward. Fixed to the corner are two certificates for amounts of Land Tax. 1798. £20.00

Lightly coloured manuscript plan in brownish tracing paper mounted on paper then on linen, size 28" x 30", folding into 8vo marbled wraps. Scale 25" to 1 mile. Shows buildings at Wallace Lane, Hazelspring, Hilltop, Studholme Rigg Wood, fields with acreage etc., river, streams, roads... together with... HILL TOP FARM The Property of the Right Honble Lord Leconfield. 1864. Similar plan, size 33 " x 55", folding into 8vo marbled wraps. The two plans fit together, with some overlap.
