Scale 6" to 1 mile. Size 27" x 37". Water features hand-coloured. Dissected and mounted on linen, folding into 8vo paper endpapers. Small railway cutting and land around Brockhill Pastures coloured in pink. Surface slightly dusty, some slight browning at paper edges of some sections at one fold.

THE COUNTY OF BEDFORD Surveyed Anno MDCCLXV, and engraved by Thomas Jefferys, Geographer to His Majesty.
Engraved map, scale 2 inches to 1 mile, published in eight sheets, which have been mounted on linen, rolled, overall size 72" x 42", plus margins. Main roads coloured in brown, hundreds outlined in shading of different colours. Plan of Bedford top right, size 11" x 11", scale 3in. = 440 yds. Decorative compass rose, scale bar, vignette bottom right showing a country road with a cart, two women talking to a man on horseback.
Second Edition, Published by W. Faden, Geographer to His Majesty, and to his Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Charing Cross Oct. 1st 1804.
¶ Shows buildings, turnpike, inclosed and open roads, numbers showing distances from Post House in Bedford, churches with small church in elevation, 'seats' shown with small house, windmills, woodland. Hachures indicate high ground, and Under the Explanation Table, bottom right Jefferys explains 'the great Angles were taken by the Theodolite, and the Roads were measured by the Chain and Transcribed on the Plain Table in the Field'. The first edition was published c1765.

MAP OF THE TOWN OF BEDFORD From Actual Survey in the year 1841. To The Mayor, Aldermen and Burgesses of the Borough of Bedford This Map is by Permission Respectfully Dedicated by their much obliged most Obedient Servant M. Reynolds, Surveyor, Bedford.
Lithographed map backed with linen, mounted on mahogany roller with turned finials, and mahogany stretcher with small brass rings for hanging at the top. The map has been varnished. Size 28" x 23", scale 1" = 200 feet, piano key border with coats of arms in the roundels at the corners of borders, decorative compass rose. Covers the Bedford Workhouse top right, and Russell Street, in the North, Ampthill Street in the South. Buildings shown, with garden plot, large gardens, parks etc. with layout of trees, hedges shown on surrounding fields, orchards, nursery plots, etc indicated. Streets and main buildings (churches, chapels, Gaol, Gas Works, Schools etc.) named. Some minor chipping of paper at some places at extreme edges, outside border. Lacks edging tape which once bound right and left edges.
