Cambridge University THREE PHOTOGRAPHS by Messrs. Stearn of Cambridge of a tennis team posed in white flannels with their racquets. Each photograph 8" x 11". Two of the photographs appear to be in the Great Court of Trinity, where some are wearing all white flannels, and some white trousers and dark blazers, and one is in front of a pavillion, where all are in white. In the Trinity photographs some are wearing caps which appear to have the Trinity badge. Two of the players in those photographs figure in the Pavillion group (possibly the College and the University team). c1890. £95.00

FAMILY OF JOHN WILKES Outwell ACCOUNT BOOK for rents of an estate at Outwell. Size approx. 9" x 4", 31p, plus blanks, ruled in red vertically throughout. Contemporary blind-stamped reversed calf with brass clasps. 13 pages of entries at the front, comprising timber accounts, e.g. 'Walnut Trees sold Matthews and Camm... £39.17.6d... Poplar at 7d per foot... ash and elm bodys at 12d per foot...'; bills received for repairs; rents received listed under tenants name, including John Johnson, Jane Towson, H. Lea, Thomas Green. At the other end of the book are 18p of accounts, many entries signed 'Sarah Wilkes', listing payments for land tax by tenants in Outwell, their names heading the page, and money for draining, for example, 'for 40 acres of Mrs Wilkes Lands in Upwell on the North Side of Pophams Eau.', 'a dyke greve rate for lands of Mrs Sarah Wilkes in Burbeach Field in Outwell in the Isle of Ely' etc. 1758-1779. £250.00
¶ On the front end paper she notes 'The following is the Copy of a proper receipt (drawn up for me by my dear Son Mr Hayley for me to transmit to Mr Dixon every time I Ballance accounts with him and two such receipts I have sent him since the Estates came into my possession... Sarah Wilkes'. Mr Dixon appears to have been the manager or steward of the estate (she notes sums received from Mr. Dixon 'when he was in town', and that he 'has 5 per for all timber fell'd'), and there is a label on the front board 'Drawer No. 1, Mr. Dixon'. The Wilkes Estate was in Outwell and Upwell. Mentions various There is a plan 'A Map of the Estate of Israel Wilkes Esq. situate in the parishes of Upwell, Outwell and Emneth in the Isle of Ely and County of Norfolk. 1760' in the Cambridgeshire Record Office. John Wilkes was the second son of Sarah and her husband Israel, Malt Distiller.
