Bowen (Emanuel) AN ACCURATE MAP OF THE COUNTY OF YORK Divided into its Ridings and Subdivided into Wopentakes, drawn from Surveys with Various Improvements Shewing also by Concentrick Circles the Distances of all places in the County from the City of York. Engraved map, hand coloured in outline, size 21" x 27", folded to small 4to but not dissected. Cartouche with title, with spinning wheel, rolls of cloth, etc. Vertical tear down almost all of one fold, repaired on verso with archival tape. Some slight loss at a few points where points leaf. One small ink blot. c1770. £65.00

  11. Dewsbury LEASE FOR A YEAR of a messuage now divided into three tenements, with gardens, orchard, croft, and a close called Little Ing, Samuel Beckett of Dewsbury, Clothier, to James Foster of Pontefract, Maltster. Vellum, size 10" x 18", signed Beckett with attractive wax seal. Memorandum on verso in a large bold hand in very black ink, saying the deed was registered at Wakefield, signed by Deputy Registrar. 1745. £25.00

  12. Diggle (James) Borough Engineer HEYWOOD CORPORATION. In Parliament. - Session 1883. Map, Shewing the Parliamentary Limits of Water Supply. Scale 1«" to a mile, size approx. 19¬" x 15", plus margins, hand coloured, key showing Population supplied with water for each area. short tear to one margin, neatly repaired to verso, feint water stain at bottom corner. 1883. £26.00

  14. East Hardwicke LEASE FOR A YEAR of the tithes of 'corn grain hay herbage and line' in East Hardwicke, William Haward, Gent., of Wakefield, to John Beetson, yeoman, of East Hardwicke. In English on vellum, size 7" x 24", decorative initial 'T' with date inside, lacks wax seal on the tag. 1691. £45.00
    Lists in detail the relevant pieces of land in East Hardwick, including a tenement of 7 acres called Barcrofts, a close lately taken from a moor called Hardwicke Moor, etc.


  15. Hand-coloured to show different populations supplied with water. Repaired marginal tear. Shows supply main, reservoirs, catchment area etc. 1883. £20.00

  28. Hobson (William Colling) MAP OF YORKSHIRE dedicated to the Nobility, Clergy, Gentry, Landowners, and Manufacturers of the County.... Large folding hand-coloured map, scale «" to 1 mile, engraved by J. & C. Walker, dissected and mounted on linen, onto two sheets, engraved surface for each sheet approx. 48" x 30", plus margins, folding into 4to cloth-covered boards, size 13" x 9", with large decorative gilt title on front board, with coat of arms, border of leaves etc., lacks metal clasp, short splits to outer hinges of boards. Map fully coloured in 'Wapentakes'; shows churches, castles, mills, canals, railroad, woods, heaths. Decorative border, compass rose, large calligraphic title, 'Explanation' table. Some off-setting and browning, mainly of the title, some occasional foxing and browning to some of the blank sections. A few sections with some slight browning in coloured areas. First edition. ARTICLES OF AGREEMENT for the sale and purchase of land and buildings in the Township of Quick in Rochdale or Saddleworth, Joseph Smith of Tamewater, Woollen Cloth Manufacturer to the Huddersfield and Manchester Railway & Canal Co. 3p., folio, folded, affixed is a coloured plan on tissue paper of the area , scale 2 chains to 1", signed Joseph Smith. Huddersfield CORPORATION REDEEMABLE STOCK CERTIFICATE Printed on stiff paper in bluish ink size of plate mark 10" x 13", decorative border with three corner medallions illustrating Huddersfield buildings, one medallion left blank.   34. Keighley LEASE FOR A YEAR of messuage with cottages, gardens etc. at Green Gates in Keighley in the occupation of John Sugden, Thomas Wilsford of Pontefract, Doctor in Physick to Joshua Padgett of Uffley, Shalloonmaker. On vellum, size 11" x 17", very fine wax seal with winged cherub holding quiver and bow, and a heart, with the word 'L'Amitie'. On verso is a note in a large bold hand saying the deed was registered at Wakefield 1st Nov. 175 at 12 noon in Book AN p.27 and 38. 1756. £34.00
    Shalloon was a kind of light cloth.

  36. Kirkham WATERCOLOUR inscribed on verso (obviously later) 'E. Eng. Window at Kirkham Priory'. Attractive, finely-painted watercolour showing two ruined arched windows and ruined masonry in foreground, tree growing over arch, large building seen through the windows. Parkland and coast hand-coloured, some roads and railways coloured by an early owner, and the railway line between Scamer and Wilton inked in in red, with stations named. Dissected and mounted on linen, folding to small 4to, marbled endpapers. Linen between sections stained pink in a couple of places. Surface slightly dusty. c1888. £24.00

  57. Wakefield WEST-RIDING RACES 1835 A Letter from Tom Win-All of Wakefield, to his old Brother Sportsman, Dick Sure-Foot, at Dundee, in the County of Forfarshire. Election Broadside, attacking the Tories, referring throughout to the candidates as race-horses, etc. Printed in two columns. Size 15" x 10", approx. 100 lines in all. Some slight creasing, a few small ink spots in margin, extreme top corner. Nichols, Printer, Northgate, Wakefield. 1835. £55.00
    Wakefield was only entitled to send a Member to Parliament after the Reform Bill of 1832. The first member was David Gaskell (referred to in the text). He was re-elected in 1835. 'The Old Tory breed has been long & fast declining in consequence of getting their feet in Old Rotten borough holes and so breaking down.... the best cure for all, is the true Russell Purge.
