  7. Beverley ADMISSION of Joseph Stephenson to a cottage and land at Tickton in the Manor of the Chapter of Beverley. Signed as 'A True Copy' by the Deputy Steward, J. Myers. 1836. £12.00

  8. Bowen (Emanuel) AN ACCURATE MAP OF THE COUNTY OF YORK Divided into its Ridings and Subdivided into Wapontakes, drawn from Surveys with Various Improvements Shewing also by Concentrick Circles the Distances of all places in the County from the City of York. Engraved map, hand coloured in outline, size 21" x 27", folded to small 4to but not dissected. Cartouche with title, with spinning wheel, rolls of cloth, etc. Vertical tear down almost all of one fold, repaired on verso with archival tape. Some slight loss at a few points where folds meet. One small ink blot. c1770. £65.00

Calder and Hebble Navigation AN ACT to enable the Company of Proprietors of the Calder and Hebble Navigation to make a navigable Cut or Canal from the said navigation at Salterhebble Bridge, to Bailey Hall, near to the Town of Halifax... and to amend the Act relating to the said Navigation. 1825. 61pp., small folio, separately paginated, sewn as issued, docket title on verso of last leaf. Stamp of Aire and Calder Navigation on first page. Docket title and first page dusty... together with... A BILL to Enable the Company of Proprietors of the Calder and Hebble Navigation to improve their Navigation... 19pp, small folio. Separately paginated, sewn as issued. Docket title on verso of last leaf, outer leaves dusty. Each item with the oval stamp of 'Aire and Calder Navigation', and with the name 'J. Priestley' written in ink in the top left margin. 2 items. 1825 and 1834. £55.00
    The 1825 Act concerned a one and three quarter mile branch from Salterhebble to the centre of Halifax. It required 14 locks. The ownership signature is possibly that of Joseph Priestly who wrote the 'Historical Account of the Navigable Rivers Canals and Railways of Great Britain', 1831.

    Comprised 29 plots of land north of Albion Street. The streets are marked as 'Intended'.


  11. Coatham Mandeville, Darlington, Fighting Cocks ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Scale 6" to 1 mile. Sheet 14a. Size 32" x 36", plus margins. Water features, main roads, parkland, railways handcoloured. Dissected and mounted on linen and folding into stiff marbled covered endpapers with printed key map. O.S. blindstamp 1884. £36.00

  12. Crackpot Moor ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Scale 25" to 1 mile. Size 27" x 34", margin trimmed away from right hand side. Slightly dusty at edges, a few small marginal tears, one just protruding into map surface. 1893. £15.00
    Covers Crackpot Side, Birk Hill, Bank Heads, North Gate Scar. Shows numerous old mine shafts.


  13. Darlington Show Society SCHEDULE OF CLASSES Darlington Show, August 1955 and August 1956. Two booklets, each appro. 50pp.... together with... Catalogue of Entries August 1957, and Catalogue of Entries August 1964, each approx. 150pp. All with printed wraps, apart from the last, which is bound in boards, cloth spine. 1955-64. £12.00

  14. Diggle (James) Borough Engineer HEYWOOD CORPORATION. In Parliament. - Session 1883. Map, Shewing the Parliamentary Limits of Water Supply. Scale 1" to a mile, size approx. 19" x 15", plus margins, hand coloured, key showing Population supplied with water for each area. short tear to one margin, neatly repaired to verso, feint water stain at bottom corner. 1883. £26.00

  15. Dix (Thomas) THE COUNTY OF YORK divided into its Ridings with their Subdivisions, Exhibiting the whole of the Mail, Direct and principal Cross Roads, Rivers, Navigable Canals, Railways And The Parliamentary Divisions. Engraved map, mounted on linen but not dissected, folded, size 23" x 28", wapentakes coloured in outline. Heights of hills top left, Market Towns, Reference to Wapentakes top right, fine view 'South East View of York' bottom right, title and Explanation, scale bar bottom left. Some slight wear at two points at central fold, one place with a small hole in paper and linen, small tear in paper only at bottom margin. The margins have been trimmed to the border, so there is no cartographer's name: this may have been originally on a slipcase label. c1820. £65.00

  16.     Covers area to the South of the River Tees, the Northumberland part of the map (about one third) being blank.


  19. Guisbrough, Newton ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP. Sheet 117. Engraved surface 24" x 36", plus margins, scale 6" to 1 mile. Rather dusty around margins. Engraved 1856. £28.00

  20. Headley Estates PARTICULARS, PLANS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE of the Valuable Freehold Estates, occupying 1,802 Acres of fertile Arable, Pasture and Rich Meadow Land, situate in the parishes of Bramham, Little Habton, Butterwick, South Holme, Amotherby and Muscoates.... comprising Eleven Excellent Farms, known as Headley Hall, Wise Warren, Manor, Habton Grange.... Which will be Sold by Auction.... 8th of August, 1903. Folio, 24pp, with 3 large folding coloured plans, loosely inserted. Spine re-inforced with brown paper. A few small edge tears in front wrap.   22. Heywood HEYWOOD CORPORATION. IN PARLIAMENT - SESSION 1883. MAP. Shewing the Parliamentary Limits of Water Supply. Lithographed map, size 19" x 14". Scale 1" x 1 mile. Hand-coloured to show different populations supplied with water. Repaired marginal tear. Shows supply main, reservoirs, catchment area etc. 1883. £20.00

  23. Hull SECOND REPORT of the Committee Appointed to Obtain Additional Dock Room at the Port of Hull. 3pp., folio, folded with docket title. Ross, Printer, Bowlalley-Lane, Hull. 24th February, 1820. £30.00
    'The Port of Hull unquestionably possesses local advantages superior to most other sea-ports in the United Kingdom, and it is painful to reflect, that, by the disjointed situation of the docks, these advantages are in a great measure rendered inefficient...'


  24. Ingleton LEASE of inclosure in the Township of Ingleton called Between Gates, Adam Shepherd, Ironmonger, to Richard Balderston. 2pp., folio, wax seals. Folds. 1797. £24.00

  25. Keighley, Haworth ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP. Sheet 200. Sheet 200. Engraved surface 24" x 36", plus margins, scale 6" to 1 mile. Dissected and mounted on linen, folding into 8vo cloth covered boards with printed label of seller W.T. Hansbrow, Land Surveyor, Manchester on front board. Cloth slightly frayed down edges of spine, a few spots on front board. Parishes lightly shaded in colour wash, with darker colour along borders. Published 30th April 1852. £60.00
    Useful for Bronte fans.


  26. Leeds BILL of Minors & Scurr, Linen Drapers & Haberdashers, Importers of Irish Linens. Bill made out to Mrs Goodman for lawn poplin, cotton hose etc. Printed calligraphic heading and fine vignette engraved by Livesey and Co. above the words 'Family Mourning' showing a woman seated near a beehive. Size 5" x 8". Leeds June 16, 1820. £16.00

  27. Leeds City Transport Department SEAT RESERVATION ON LAST TRAM Saturday, 7th November, 1959. Ticket size approx. 3" x 4", printed on coloured card. The details of name and tram number have not been filled in. 1959. £8.00
    Passengers were asked to be at Swinegate depot at 6 p.m.


  28. Leeds MR. PERCY HAGGAS'S WAR WORKERS 1914-1918. Oldfield Lane, and Armley Road Works, Leeds. Photograph size 6" x 8", mounted on thick card with printed title as above., showing approx. 150 workers, men and women, in a field in front of a house, winter trees. Signed by photographer, J. Garratt, Leeds. c1918. £16.00
    The Haggas family were mill owners in the area.


  29. Leeds PLAN OF THE NEW POST OFFICE BUILDING Scale 8 Feet to an Inch. Lithographed plan, by Thomas Winn, Architect, Leeds, showing three floors. Size 22" x 30". Repaired tear along much of central horizontal fold. n.d. c1880. £18.00

  30. Melbourne AN ACCOUNT OF WOOD Sold by me off the East Wood upon Lady Vavasour's Farm Melbourne. Lists name of purchaser and price, for example 'Wright, Everingham... 9s', 'Snell, Pocklington... 4s'. Feb. 1st 1845. Written on both sides of sheet 13" x 4"... together with... Expences of Cutting Wood in East Wood March 17 1838. Small 8vo slip listing 9 items, name of person, dates worked and rate per day, plus ale expense. Signed as settled by C. Horner, Woodman. 1838-45. £16.00

  31. Norman (Charles) TWO PHOTOGRAPHS OF WHITBY ABBEY pasted to either side of sheet of card. Size of views 8" x 12". One titled 'Whitby Abbey Interior. C.N. & Co.' in white in plate. c1880. £15.00

  32. North Bierley FIELD BOOK with notes on farms and small plans of the lands. Notebook with records of lettings of farms, 1816-41. 'George Field's Farm. G.F. quit his Farm 1820. Now in the occupation of J.G. Daley.' Size 6" x 4", full calf boards, metal clasp, lacks calf from spine. 64 pages of entries, with plan on left and notes on facing page. Alphabetical index of tenants' names. Name of Farm or name of tenant in large letters across top. 30 small plans, two folding, some showing just a few fields with their names and acreage, others slightly more intricate plans with small houses in elevation in grey watercolour, fish ponds, etc. There are notes on the plans such as 'ploughing', 'pasture' etc. Three or four plans are more sophisticated with scale bar, water features hand coloured, woodland shown. Notes record details of letting, sale of hay 'Let with a Public House (The Engineer) & Premises at £100 p.a. 1837 Built a stable...'. At the end of the book are 10 further pages of farming notes, treatment for cattle, etc., in a rather shaky hand, the last dated 1859. 1816-1859. £110.00
    There is no clear reference to a place, apart from a reference on the first page 'the regulation is made in the Township of North Bierley made in 1811'.


  33. Northallerton REPORT OF THE PROPOSED MUNICIPAL BOUNDARY OF THE BOROUGH. 5pp., with a plan coloured in outline, on folding sheet, by R.K. Dawson, scale 4" to 1 mile and 1" to 1 mile. Folio, disbound. 1837. £24.00

  34. Pateley Bridge, Fewson ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Scale 1" to 1 mile. Size 12" x 16", folded to small 8vo. Margins have been cut away leaving only piano key border. High ground shown with hachures. c1850. £10.00

  35. Richmond ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Sheet 39. Scale 6" to 1 mile. Size 26" x 35". Dissected and mounted on linen, folding into marbled endpapers with small key map. Water features, roads, railways, parkland hand-coloured. Area near Gilling feintly outlined in pale blue crayon. 1857. £45.00
    Covers Richmond, Middleton Tyas, Sebury Hall, Scorton, River Swale.


  36. Settle, Malham ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Scale 1" to 1 mile. Quarter sheet with borders all round, size 13" x 18", folded, two small splits at central fold repaired on verso, some slight browning at fold. c1870. £8.00

Lot 58 has been clipped out of the page... together with... similar catalogues for sales of Shorthorn Bull and Cattle for October 1901, April 1902, April 1903, all 40-50 pages... with The Yorkshire Society For the Christmas Exhibition... Catalogue of Ten Pure-Bred Shorthorn Bulls for Sale by Auction November 30th 1899, 7pp., with similar for 1902 and 1903, and a 2p. list of entries for the York Gold Challenge Cup, April 1902. 8 items. 1899-1903. £22.00

Printed in large typefaces with 6 lines of description of each of the 2 Lots. Size 14" x 8", traces of folds. Marshall, Printer, Guisbro'. Sept, 26. 1820. £40.00
    Comprised 2 cottages with Wright Shop, Orchard, Garth, and half a Pew in Skelton Church, and An Allotment on Manless Green 'desirable to any Person... anxious to Build; as there are good Public Quarries in and for the use of the Township, where the Purchasers will have right to win Stones'.

  40. Sowerby Bridge ACCOUNTS of the Sowerby Bridge Evening Schools Committee, Session 1893-94. Single large 4to sheet, printed on one side only, with account for three schools showing fees received, expenditure on salaries, etc. 1894. £9.00

  41. Thirsk ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Sheet XCVI.S.W. Scale 1" to 1 mile, size 13" x 19", border all round. Parkland and main roads hand-coloured. Linen-backed and folding into 8vo cloth endpapers. Linen slightly discoloured between sections with a few holes in linen where folds meet. 1859. £20.00

  42. Walker (J) & (C) NORTH RIDING OF YORKSHIRE. Folding engraved, hand-coloured map, showing Parliamentary Boundaries. Dissected and mounted on linen, engraved area approx. 12" x 15", plus margins, folding to approx. 4" x 3". 1841. £16.00

  43. Whitby Water Act ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Sheet XLV S.E. and the sheet to the south, scale 6" to 1 mile, size 25" x 18", plus margins, overprinted in red with 'Whitby Water Act. 1928. House of Lords. The Plan referred to...' and showing the pipe-lines etc. west of New Wath Scar. 1928. £18.00

  44. Whitby, Scalby ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Sheet XCV N.W. Scale 1" to 1 mile. Size 13" x 19", dissected and mounted on line, folding into small 8vo marbled endpapers. An extra piece from the adjacent sheet covering Whitby has been added by sewing an extra piece of linen, which folds in neatly. 1872. £12.00

  45. Withernsea, Keyingham ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Scale 6" to 1 mile. Composite map, made of six quarter sheets, top right sheet is CCXLIII. N.W. Water features hand-coloured. 'Withernsea Water' in capital letters top centre, area round Withernsea and around area to the east of Winestead Hall shaded with thick red line, windmill pump, impounding reservoir, pumping station, tank etc. marked in red ink, rising main marked in red ink. 1895. £35.00

  46. Woollen mill TWO PHOTOGRAPHS of men at work at machines in a woollen mill. Each image 4" x 6", mounted on thick grey card with dark grey borders. n.d. c1920. £22.00
    One photograph shows a very large wicker basket full of fleece and two machines with rollers, the other with a line of four machines with the wool being fed into them.


  47. York CATALOGUE of 256 Pure-Bred Shorthorn Cattle for Sale by Auction, 30th April 1924. 96pp., 8vo., green wraps. Staples rusty, tear in paper at part of spine. 1924. £7.00

  48. York City Club MENU for the Annual Dinner at Harker's Hotel, Nov. 24th, 1893. 4pp, 12mo, on pink card with decorative gold border with medieval people, etc. Small trace of glue near the word 'City' in the title. 1893. £10.00

  49. York INVITATION from the Sheriff of York to a Reception at the Exhibition Buildings, January 16th, 1895. Card size 4" x 6", printed in brown, with shield surrounded by leaves at top... together with... Menu for the City Club, York, Annual Dinner, Nov. 28th, 1894. 4pp., printed in red on card, small 8vo. 1894-5. £14.00
