Beere Hackett CONVEYANCE IN FEE of tenement in Knighton within the parish of Beere Hackett, in trust, William Newman of Dulish to Edward Osmond of Steeple in the Isle of Purbeck, in settlement on the marriage of his son William Newman with Osmond's daughter Honor. Vellum, 21" x 24", 63 lines, signed by four parties, four tags, but lacking small wax seals. Attractive large calligraphic initial letter with flourishes. 1649. £45.00
    Commonwealth period deed. Names the various lands involved.

Vellum, 12" x 19", lacks wax seal from tag. Signed by John and Elizabeth. Attractive large decorative initial letter in bold black ink, with the date inside. 1675. £35.00

  14. Bryanston WILL of William Straight of Bryanston, Gent. 2p., small folio, conjoint leaf had been used as address panel by Robert Gapper to send the will to John Long at Whalley, near Frome, with small round stamp with letters 'AP'. Conjoint leaf torn right across, splits down main fold, paper creased. 1724. £17.00

  21. Collins (Capt. Grenville) PORTLAND Chart showing Lulworth Cove, Weymouth Road, Weymouth and Melcombe, Portland Bill, Crab, Chisham, Portland Castle. Size 17" x 21«", plus margins. Scale 1«" = 1 mile. Vignette bottom left with four figures, goats, dedication to Capt. George St. Lo, bottom right are harvester, animals etc., around scale bar. Compass rose at centre with rhumb lines. Left hand edge with several small edge tears (not reaching beyond plate mark), top 6" of left hand edge rather ragged. Corfe Castle INDENTURE TRIPARTITE between William Rose of Rempstone in Corfe Castle, gent., and Susannah his wife with Henry Hooton of Mappowder, clerk, John Nelson of Dorchester, clerk, and Thomas Cox of Stinsford, clerk, concerning Rose's marriage settlement and messuage farm and demesne called Rempstone in Corfe Castle now in the possession of Thomas Tidbury. Copy made for Chancery case, 1746, of deed dated 1722. Vellum, 26" x 27", vellum foxed, grey stain at centre, but legible. 1746. £26.00

  23. Corfe Mullen RENTAL OF THE ESTATE OF ST. JOHN COVENTRY ESQ. At Corfe Mullen, Dorset. Large account book, size 15" x 10", morocco label on front boards with title as above, full reversed calf. 137 double page spreads, listing rents received, with tenants' names, and sums paid out on his behalf by James Chislett (presumably estate manager) on the upkeep of the estate, taxes, repairs to farms and cottages, wages, building, etc. 1859-1863. £200.00
    Many of the expenses listed are to do with Henbury House, and Knowle: 'Jane Florance 18 days due for scrubbing rooms at Knowle House', 'W. Wilson for Fruit Trees planted in Henbury Garden... £5.2s', 'Paid Saml. Lovell for building new bakehouses at the cottages at Waterloo... £13.10s', 'To my charge for preparing Map and Terrier and colouring Map distinguishing each Tenant's holding...'


  24. Digby family DEED OF COVENANT between George Wingfield Digby and Frederick Powell. Draft, 4p. folio. 1864. £14.00
    Refers to debts run up by George's brother Kenelm and his partner as merchants in Bordeaux and the need to 'prevent the publicity of the bankruptcy of the said firm of Powell and Wingfield & the imprisonment of the sd. Harper Powell and Kenelm Digby Wingfield...'


  25. Dorchester LETTER from H. Peacock, Dorchester, Oct. 12th, 1741, to an unnamed correspondent, (possibly someone for whom he acted as agent) about the supply of 'New River Water' and the tax collected., and lost Court Rolls. 'I will remit all the Money I can get from the Tenants, by first Conveyance'. 2p, folio. 1741. £10.00

  26. Dorchester, Wareham GEOLOGICAL SURVEY Sheet No. 328. Drift. Colour-printed, size 13" x 19", plus margins, key, section. Linen backed and folding to 4to, blue endpapers. 1958. £17.00

  27. Dorsetshire CHRISTOPHER SPURRIER ESQUIRE SHERIFF of the Said County by Richard Weston Parr Esq. His Attorney Accounting for the Issues of His Office from the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel.... viz. for the space of one whole year Rendereth an Account of the feefarms, farms, seizures and other debts underwritten.... Vellum roll on several membranes sewn together, size 111" x 12". Comprises 'Parcels of the Pipe', 'Greenwax', and at the end, Sheriff's expenses for allowances to Justices of the Peace, lodgings for Judges, etc. Signed at the end as examined by H. Ware, Deputy Clerk of the Pipe. 1826. £130.00
    Pipe rolls listed accounts rendered by the Sheriff to the Exchequer, detailing Crown Revenue from farm rents etc. Under 'Pipe' are listed 32 entries, including rents within the Hundreds of Lusborough, Houndsborough, Winfreth, Puddletown, George, Culliford Street, 'Of the Burgesses of Lyme Regis for a Water Mill', 'Of the Mayor and Burgesses of Lyme Regis for the feefarm of their Town', 'Of the Mayor Burgesses and Corporation of Corfe Castle', 'Of William Raynham for the farm of Bridport Mill', etc.

In a Writ of Error upon a Judgment of the King's Bench, Reversing a Judgment in the Common Pleas. To be heard at the Bar of the House of Lords on Wednesday the 29th of April 1702. Single printed sheet, size 14«" x 11", folds, title on verso. Gives a summary of 'The Case upon the Record.... ' Small British Library stamp on verso, with red 'Discard' stamp. Contemporary MS note at foot of page "Note the Court of Common. Pleas was not unanimous in giveing their Judgment." [London? 1702] £75.00
    Not in Mayo's Bibliotheca Dorsetiensis.
    Concerns a writ by Sir Thomas Kinsey "directed to the Sheriff of Dorset, commanding him to attach the said Henry, to answer.... Why he broke his Close with Force and Arms in Dorsetshire".

Wambrook LEASE FOR A YEAR of house and 33 acres of land in Bewley Down called Shags Plud and Woolfern Hill comprising the Site of the old Lime Kiln and a Lime Stone Quarry, and other lands, Thomas Deane to Martha Edwards. Vellum, size 18" x 23", two good armorial wax seals. Loosely inserted is an obligation bond relating to the lease. 1820. £16.00

  56. Wambrook MORTGAGE IN FEE of a messuage and premises in Wambrook for securing £900 and interest. Isaac and Thomas Deane of Wambrook to Martha Edwards. Three large vellum sheets, two wax seals. 1820. £24.00
    Concerns 33 acres of land at Bewley Down the site of an old Lime Kiln and a Limestone Quarry, and a small piece of land called Quarry Knapps, and allotments in respect of tenements called White's, Brown's, Darby's.


  57. Wambrook RELEASE IN FEE of Premises in Wambrook Dorset and Grant of a Right of Way, Isaac Deane and his Trustee to Revd. Wm. Palmer. Two large vellum sheets, wax seals. With brief Schedule of deeds. Loosely inserted is LEASE FOR A YEAR, single vellum sheet, 2 wax seals. Ink slightly faded. 1814. £16.00
    The land comprised 30 acres part of allotments of land numbered on the map of inclosure, and bounded on by a piece of land called Buenos Ayres, and land belonging to Wadham College.


  58. Wambrook RELEASE in fee of several pieces of Ground in Wambrook allotted in respect of his Estates, John Beviss of Wambrook to Thomas Lawrence of Chard. Two vellum sheets, vellum slightly browned, size 17" x 28", wax seals. Refers to allotments of Common ground of Wambrook under the Enclosure Act. Lists the plots by number according to the enclosure plan, and the tenements such as White's, Brown's, Warren's, Darby's, etc. qualifying Beviss for them. Loosely inserted is a lease for a year relating to the same transaction. 1809. £20.00

  62. Wimborne School LEASE for 99 years by the 'Governors of the possessions revenues and good' of the Free Grammar School of Queen Elizabeth in Wimborne Minster, of the Tithes and Tenthes arising out of a capital messuage and five score and five acres of land belonging in Petersham, to Barnabie Leighe of North Court in the Isle of Wight. Vellum, 11" x 17", large wax seal detached and shattered into pieces. Three large brown stains, obliterating some areas of text. 1612. £35.00
