  2. Ashton ASHTON PRIORY, NEAR BRISTOL Pencil drawing so titled, on 'Bristol' paper, size 10" x 13". A fine detailed drawing in soft pencil showing figures on a lane outside a large house with walled garden, Gothic windows on first floor, tall tree in foreground framing view, larger building just seen through trees behind house.   9. Bath SUBSCRIPTIONS AND DONATIONS BOOK For the Society for Preserving to the Public the Right of Ancient Footpaths. R. Hare, E. Saunders, Secretaries. Manuscript recording names and amounts for subscribers 1843-1870. 38p., sm. 8vo, parchment boards, worn, chipped morocco label with gilt title. There are also two minutes of meetings noting change of collector, signed R. Wilbraham Falconer (the author of works on the Bath Mineral Waters). 1843-70. £110.00
    Pasted inside front board is a printed letter stating the Society would like a subscription from each household 'the health and pleasure of the Inhabitants of Bath being so dependent upon the Footways that afford accommodation to pedestrians in reaching the various delightful situations around the City.' Among the subscribers are: R. Tite, C. Milsom, Rev. Bartram, T. Jolly, S. Rutter, J. Pulteney, Lady Hargood, Holloway & Son.


  10. Batheaston WATERCOLOUR in monochrome. Shows the church in the centre with hills behind, view framed in two trees.. On grey paper, size 7" x 10", small piece torn from top corner, slightly affecting drawing. Titled bottom right 'Batheaston Church 1864'. 1864. £14.00

  11. Bathford ARTICLES OF SETTLEMENT on the forthcoming marriage of John Hampden the younger and Helen Wiltshire, both of Bathford. Three large vellum sheets, signed by four parties with wax seals. Outside where titled dusty and spotty, but inside of deed is clean. 1846. £10.00

  12. Bathwick and Chew Magna COPY WILL of William Abraham of Bathwick, Banker, 1803. 6p., small folio, sewn at edge, folded with docket title... together with... An Inventory of the Personal Estate and Effects of William Abraham Deceased. 1p, folio. Paper of will watermarked 1814. £28.00
    Bequeathes his house in Bathwick, held under Lady Bath, property in Chew Magna, house at 6 Caroline Buildings in Lyncombe & Widcombe, money for bread for 'the second poor' of Chew Magna, shares in Sydney Gardens, money to the Bath Dispensary and Infirmary. The house at Chew Magna was called 'Fosters House'.

    A striking bold print, and a good impression.

  31. Bridgwater Bay ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Sheet XX. Scale 1" to 1 mile. Covers Porlock, North Petherton, Weston-super-Mare, part of South Wales coast. Size approx. 24" x 35", dissected and mounted on linen, folding to 8vo, marbled endpapers. Slight browning of linen at one fold, and small light stain on linen (not affecting paper) at 3 points where folds meet. Good plate mark. Edmunds Wickham Watermark 1849. £55.00
    Marginal information consists of sheet numbers in Roman and Arabic numerals top right, scale bar and 'The coast below High Water Mark supplied by the Admiralty'.


  32. Bridgwater BY A GENTLEMAN OF BRIDGEWATER on the Death of His Sister. Manuscript poem, 14 four-line stanzas, on 3 sides of small folio paper. Rather untidily written, presumably original as at one point he has crossed out 'those' in 'To tread those footsteps' and put 'the footsteps' as it scans better. c1810. £18.00
    The girl was 'Snatch'd when thy opening Joys began to bloom'. 'Calm & serene she saw her fate approach/And Only felt for those she left behind/No Guilty terrors hover'd round her Couch/Her Heart was easy and her soul resign'd.'


  33. Bridgwater TO THE WORTHY AND INDEPENDENT ELECTORS of The Borough of Bridgwater... Broadside in which Vere Poulett comment on the recent decision of Select Committee of the House of Commons, referring to the Polls of 1806 and 1807, thanking people for their support and conveying his readiness to represent them in Parliament in future. Size 10" x 8", 24 lines, pasted to card, with inscription in ink below 'Presented to the Club by Mr Henry Harding in memory of his father... 4th December 1893'.   34. Bridgwater VALUABLE LICENSED AND BUSINESS PROPERTIES Dwelling Houses and Premises... which Mr. Tamlyn will sell by Auction... 27th March, 1905. Printed handbill, size 15" x 9", pasted along top margin to typed conditions of sale, folded. 1905. £16.00
    The properties, in 8 Lots, were in Polden Street and St. John Street, and included 'The Caledonia Inn', 'The Golden Lion', Butcher's and Slaughterhouse etc.

Greenslade & Co. will Sell by Auction at the George Hotel, Ilminster on Wednesday, the 12th day of March, 1924. With coloured folding plan, 3pp, folded, totals and names in manuscript on last leaf.   37. [Bulleid, (J)] MANUSCRIPT LISTING PLACE NAMES written on the blank versos of leaflets advertising the 'Accidental Death Insurance Company.... Agent for Glastonbury Mr. J.G.L. Bulleid, Solicitor', sewn into worn and chipped card wraps from an old exercise book, 4to. 40 pages, about ten names on each page, with entry quoting origin etc., and sources. Many names have no entry. Names seem to be field, house names etc., from the Glastonbury area, examples include 'Culver Close: There is a Culver Croft near the Grange farm being the enclosure where the priory pigeon house stood, from Culver a pigeon. White's Selborne p. 202'; 'Halfpenny Mead: '"20 acres a.". Cambell's Survey 1698'. Loosely inserted is a letter to Bulleid from Frank Reynolds translating a Latin inscription, and an envelope addressed to him with a stamp, the back of which he has used for pencilled notes. c1895. £45.00

  38. Castle Cary NINE APPRENTICESHIP INDENTURES apprentising seven boys and two girls to Castle Cary tradesmen. All printed on paper, size 8" x 10", all signed by the apprentice, a parent and the tradesman, with small wax seals (except for one which has papered seals). Details inserted in manuscript. Impressed seal top left, signed in the left margin by Castle Cary attorney. 1803. £95.00
    With the usual provisos about playing dice, haunting taverns, etc. Gives a picture of the trades in Castle Cary at the time, which includes mantua maker, cordwainer, hosier, baker, wheelwright, glover and breeches maker, collar and harness maker.


  39. Chard ACCOUNT OF THE PERSONAL ESTATE of late Mr Edward Baker, died 19 Feb. 1820. Manuscript, 2p., folio. Lists sums due to him on mortgage (for people at Chard, Hatch, Wincanton), due on bond, money lent without security, leasehold estates at Overland, Sea Mills, Chard, House and Tan Yard at Broadway, etc. Total due amounted to nearly £16,000. 1820. £8.00

  40. Chard OBLIGATION BOND Thomas Lawrence and Elizabeth Lane of Chard to Charles Edwards for £263. 1p., sm. folio, preamble printed with ms inserts, the main paragraph in manuscript. Signed by Thomas Lawrence and by Elizabeth Lane with her mark, two small wax seals. Blank conjoint leaf. Folds. 1809. £16.00

  41. Charlinch FINE relating to two messuages and land at Edington Burtle in Charlinch, between William Perkins and John Pearce. Vellum, size 9" x 16", printed with manuscript inserts. 1821. £12.00

    Leaves his estate called Higher Betham, 'my cider mill and press, my hanging press, my Furnace and a Feather bed in the Milk House Chamber...' Also leaves an estate at Churchstanton in Devon called Monteys.

Handbill size approx. 13" x 8", folded, small split at one fold. Describes 10 lots, naming tenants, and owners of adjoining lands. 1847. £20.00
    Includes lands at East Pennard known as Crabtree Close and Elbow Corner, and rights of Common on Southwood Common. ' A Railway is now in pregrees in the immediate vicinity of these Premises...'

Glastonbury Abbey Estate PARTICULARS, WITH PLANS, VIEWS, AND CONDITIONS OF SALE OF A VALUABLE FREEHOLD ESTATE, Comprising the Elegant and Distinguished Mansion known as The Abbey House.... also the Two Entrance Lodges, and 22 Cottages.... In a portion of the Grounds stand the Magnificent and Historic Ruins of Glastonbury Abbey, Which are in a good state of preservation.... Which will be sold by Auction.... by Mr Robert Bowring in a marquee in the grounds On Thursday, the 6th day of June, 1907. Paper on front board rubbed and worn around eges, narrow strip of paper approx. a quarter of an inch wide and 4 inches long torn from front board, with loss of some letters in the address of the auctioneer. 1907. £195.00

Glastonbury DEED TO LEAD THE USE OF A FINE relating to fifty acres formerly enclosed out of the Moores or Woody Ground called South Moor and Alder Moore, part of the Manor of Glastonbury, and a tenement and land in Mere and right of common on Godney Moor, Heath Moor, etc., Thomas Maynard and Hannah his wife, of Halton and Richard Godwyn of Street. Vellum, size 14" x 21". Some light browning of vellum in places. 1732. £22.00

  54. Glastonbury THE SOUTH PROSPECT OF THE RUINS OF GLASTONBURY ABBY copper engraving. Size 7" x 15", book page number P.252 bottom right. Trace of fold at centre, and slight trace of two other vertical folds. c1750. £12.00

Goathurst LETTER from Thomas Mullins addressed to the Chilton Commissioners, Bridgwater, about accounts for the Tynte estate. 10 lines in a small neat hand on 1p., 4to, folded with address panel on verso of conjoint leaf, piece of paper torn away from blank leaf, slightly affecting address. 1802. £8.00
    Says he has had the gout and been unable to walk, so is sending his son to Bridgwater with the accounts and details of the lives on 'Col. Tynte's Estates'. Mullins was probably the Steward of the estate.


  56. Godwin (C) A NEW AND CORRECT PLAN OF THE CITY OF BATH from a recent Survey. Copper engraved plan, dissected and mounted on linen, size approx. 18" x 21", scale 120 yds to 1". View of the Royal Crescent in bottom corner with title, city coat of arms in top left hand corner. Reference Table giving key to 22 buildings, lines show proposed diversion of river, and proposed canal from Bath to Bristol. Folding into small 4to card marbled paper slipcase, with original printed label on green paper, slipcase slightly rubbed at edges. Published By and For H. Godwin, Bookseller.     Scarce. Extends from Sion House in the North to Upper Great Pulteney Street in the South, Lyncombe Lane in the West to American Buildings in the East.


  57. Ham Green, Portbury LEASE FOR A YEAR of a house, lands and orchard at Ham Green, Miles Ariel, Broker and Elizabeth his wife, and Samuel Hicks Withers, to Philip John Miles, of Leigh Court, Abbots Leigh. Vellum, size 21" x 27". Signed by 3 lessors with wax seals, Schedule at the bottom of the sheet listing house, orchard, copse, withy bed, cottage, piece of land described as 'at Portbury Wharf', etc. with 'Quality', 'Quantity'. Names previous owners of the various plots. 1830. £20.00

  58. Hawkins (Thomas M.). Publisher GRAND PHOTOGRAPHIC VIEW ALBUM OF TAUNTON Sixteen plates on glossy paper. Size 7" x 9", boards with gilt title. Boards stained and faded (not affecting contents.) c1890. £14.00
    Most plates are whole-page views, but some are two to a page. Views include County Cricket Ground, The Barracks, Independent College, Hospital and Nursing Institute.

  60. Hearne (T) EPISCOPAL PALACE AT WELLS. Antique hand-coloured copper engraving. Lithographed view approx. 7" x 10", in an ivory mount with gold and silver lines, the hand-colouring is well executed but possibly later. London, Published as the Act directs, June 1, 1799, by W. Name of purchasers written in untidy hand down left hand margin, and some figures written in right margin. 2" repaired tear from top margin into title, paper generally rather creased, with some light browning. Yatton A TERRIER as well of all the Glebe lands Tenements, Orchards & Gardens belonging to the Rectory or Parsonage of Yatton and Kenne, As also of all the Glebe lands Orchards Gardens obligations profits emoluments & portions of Tythes belonging to the Vicarage thereof made by us whose names are hereunto subscribed the Third day of March Anno Domini 1635. 12 folio pages, folded, sewn at corner, listing tenants, acreage of lands held and location, with details of tithes paid for orchards, lambs, cows, 'hay silver' 'Cheate wheat' etc., e.g. 'Item the tythe of the Mills in Yatton and Kenn and also of Fishing fowling and other personall tythes do belong to the Vicar. Item due to the vicar for Pidgeon houses or dove houses four pence. For every house for Churching of Women four pence....' Copy made circa 1825, probably in connection with a dispute over tithes, with rough notes of lawyers' opinion etc. on verso of several pages. Some underlining in text. 1625, copied c1825. £60.00
