    Shows a stone wall in the foreground with a man leaning on it looking at the view, ships on the Avon, and the Severn and the Welsh hills in the distance. Cooke's Folly slightly to the right of the picture.

  6. Earl of Aberdeen LETTER to a Mr Wilson, signed 'Aberdeen', on notepaper printed with 'Haddo House, Aberdeen', asking him if he can recommend a hotel in Clifton where he can stay with his wife, who has been recovering from a serious illness. 4p., 8vo. Jan. 8, 1890. £8.00
    'What my wife requires is as much seclusion as possible with quiet drives and walks, with sketching etc.'


  7. Friese Greene CARTE DE VISITE PORTRAIT Showing a lady with a little girl. Photograph faded and spotty. Name 'Friese Greene' printed below photograph, and on verso printed with 'Friese Greene Photographic Institute, opposite Buckingham Place, Queens' Road, Clifton' with address in Bath and Plymouth in smaller lettering. c1880. £20.00
    In pencil on the back is 'Elsie Mary Bennett with nannie circa 1881.'

  9. Queen Square ASSIGNMENT by way of Mortgage of a Messuage or Dwelling House Warehouse Lofts and Premises in Queen Square and Little King Street. William Winter to Sarah Taylor and others. Two large vellum sheets, some browning, small wax seal. 1835. £15.00
    Concerned the site on the north side of Queen Square where some buildings had burnt down.


  10. Tucker Street, St. Thomas ASSIGNMENT by Peregrine Palmer, of Fairfield in Somerset, of his part and share in Brewhouse in Tucker Street Bristol to Mr Isaac Hobhouse, Merchant, of Bristol. 3 vellum sheets, size 26" x 31", 2 good armorial wax seals. First page with some light damp spotting and short splits at folds in two places. Outside where titled rather dustmarked. 1743. £30.00
    Concerns 'all that late sugarhouse with five several messuages thereto belonging... two old messuages in Tucker Street purchased of John Rayner Paper Merchant...' The old messuages had been pulled down and a 'Malthouse, Brewhouse and Distillhouse.... for the carrying on of the Arts Mysteries of Maltmaking, Brewing and Distilling' was built. Seven people became partners in the business.

Delaval Astley on the occasion of his Coming of Age, March 3rd 1909, with list of Residents and Tenant Farmers, and for a Silver Cigarette Case, with names of the Cottage Tenants. 4 card leaves, plus blanks, in morocco bound 4to volume.     The Ellesborough Golf Club is listed among the first group of Subscribers.

  22. Middlewich ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Sheet LXXX N.E. Scale 1" to 1 mile. Size 13" x 14", plus wide margins. Small blue 'Record Map' stamp in margin. O.S. blindstamp 1897. £18.00

  23. Nantwich Station (?) PHOTOGRAPH of a group of 16 station staff posed as a group on a platform, track on the left with steam train approaching in the distance, the men wearing uniform have 'L & N.W' on their hats and lapels. Others wear bowler or flat caps. One is obviously the station master. Size 6" x 8", mounted on thick card, one corner of card chipped away. Some very slight browning at centre of image, but details very crisp. Inscribed on verso 'Nantwich (courtesy J.B. Gandern)'. c1900 or slightly earlier. £26.00
    There is no Nantwich sign visible in the photo, but it should be possible from the architecture to check that attribution.

  25. Bodmin area ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP Sheet No. XXX, covering the area from Boscastle to Luxulyan. Trimmed to border at left and right edges, folded vertically in three, tear 4" into engraved surface at bottom, neatly repaired on verso. Whatman watermark 1855. £32.00

  26. Bodmin REPORT ON THE BOROUGH AND TOWN OF BODMIN 2pp., with folding map, coloured in outline. Scale 2" to 1 mile. Folio, disbound. 1832. £24.00

  27. Camborne LETTER from Mr. Geo. Jeffery to Mr. Stephens of Devonport, saying he is determined to get out of mining and listing three lots of shares resigned on which the Calls are paid to October. 1p 4to, folded, integral address panel, Camborne postmark, tear where seal broken, repaired. 1838. £16.00

  28. Camelford LEASE of a dwelling house lately erected, with 'pump place.... lately dugg in late John Fords Garden hedge', John Wallis of Lanteglos by Camelford to John Sloggat of the Burrough of Camelford, Cordwinder (cordwainer?). Vellum, 14" x 17", chipped wax seal, some foxing spots. Various later receipts for sale of remainder of lease etc. on verso. 1736. £24.00

  29. Cornish Tin Mines OFFER OF THE EMPLOYERS' FEDERATION to the Workers on the Mines. Printed 4to sheet detailing the present wages, rise per week etc for 7 grades of men, with additional concessions. States that if these terms are not accepted "the responsibility must rest with the men of certain Mines closing down never to re-open again". Mar. 16th 1920.... With.... Employers Federation. Schedule of Wages adopted.... March 5th 1920. List upwards of 40 jobs at the Mines with rates. 2p, fscp., gestetnered, signed by Secretary. 1920. £14.00

  30. Cornwall Railway CERTIFICATE OF £50 SHARE Printed on green paper, size 7" x 9", made out to John Nuttal of Pimlico. Signed by Secretary. Good impressed seal diameter 2", showing shield with besants, mining tools, Prince of Wales feathers. Three small stab holes top left, in blank area. 1846. £65.00
    The seal has the lettering 'Incorporated 1847'.


  31. Feock and Stithians ASSIGNMENT of a tenement in Kellignothan in Feock, and a tenement called Carne in Stithians, William Hill of Falmouth to James Lenhathren. Two large vellum sheets, browned but completely legible, two wax seals. 1738. £16.00
    With record of payments on verso.


  32. Gwennap BELL MINE, MERCHANTS LEDGER NO. 1 Ledger, sm. folio, half reversed calf, titled as above on morocco lettering piece. 118 pages of entries, plus many blanks at end, alphabetical Index. The first 60 pages are double page spreads with Debit on left, Credit on Right, later pages have both on same page. Includes payments made for cartridges, candles, different types of timber, tools, rope, fuse, stationery, drawing materials, printing, long lists of equipment bought from Harvey & Co. ('Arm for flywheel... £1.11s.8d', 'Tooth wheel for driving stamps... £5.14s.6d'). Firms include John Martyn & Son, East Basset Adventurers, Cornwall Blasting Powder Co., Cornwall Gunpowder Co. The latter part of the ledger has pages headed with the names of a large number of mines, with entries for explosives supplied (territe, detonators). Mines include: West Godolphin, Mounts Bay Consols, Pheonix Mines, New Great Work, Breage TIn Mine, Dolcoath, East Tregembo, New Trumpet, Kit Hill Tunnel Mine. 1871 - 1887. £280.00

  33. Helston AUCTION POSTER advertising sale of house, workshop and stores in Wendron Street, in the occupation of Richard Hosking and James Hawke. Size 30" x 21", folds, some slight wear at one fold, off-setting of type. 1900. £14.00

  34. Helston ORDER to the Overseers of the Poor of Helston by Thomas Glynn, J.P., to pay Mary Tonkin 1s a week being the 'usual and ordinary Price of one days Labour in Husbandry in the said County'. 18 lines, small folio, signed by Glynn, small papered seal, repaired 1" tear in blank area. Paper creased. 1782. £24.00
    Joseph Tonkin the husband was serving in the County Militia as a Substitute for Gilbert Hele Chilcott Gentleman.


  35. Helston RECTOR'S COMMUTATION RENT CHARGE DUE 1st July 1846. 9 double-page spreads in manuscript on folio notebook with plain wraps, manuscript title, ruled in columns for Occupier, Situation of Property, Rent Charge Apportioned, Arrears, etc. 1846. £45.00
    Lists 123 occupiers. Families include Borlase, Bartle, Chynoweth, Dobb, Grylls, Libby, Priske, Penaluna, Vinicombe, Wedlock.


  36. Helston THE CHURCHWARDENS AND OVERSEERS OF THE BOROUGH in acc. with G. Grylls & Co., Helston, on purchase of corn. 2p., sm. 4to, listing money due for 'samples of Barley', 'Capn. Clarks bill for freight', etc. Together with receipt of 1874 for corn ricks purchased by R. Mathews. 1801 and 1874. £12.00

  37.     Includes Penhole Farm, West and East Trevillis Farms, St. Pinnock, Emlyn's Park, Cricket Field, Stone Yard etc. at Liskeard. The missing plan showed the Liskeard Lots.

  39. Lostwithiel BILL the Corporation of Lostwithiel to Richd. Rundle Constable. For expenses of Jury of the Inquest on the Body of Harry Goldsworthy, Constables fee, telegraph messuages to coroner etc. single 4to sheet, signed by Coroner. Oct. 1st. 1867. £16.00

  40. Lostwithiel GENERAL STATEMENT of the Receipts and Expenditure on account of the Highways of the Parish of Lostwithiel from 7th May 1849 to 11 April 1850. Printed sheet with manuscript inserts, folio, printed on one side only, signed by John Bennett, Clerk to the Justices. 30th January 1852. £18.00

  41. Manaccan INVENTORY and Valuation of Farm Stock, Household Furniture and Effects at Kestle in the Parish of Manaccan. 3pp., folio. 1899. £9.00
    Refers to the estate of Joseph Jenkin, occupier, Colonel Tremayne owner.


  42. Markets in Helston and Breage COPY OF CASE for Mr Burrough's opinion as to the right of holding a Market in Breage. Manuscript in a neat hand, 4 pages, small folio. 1814, this copy c1820. £35.00
    The writer says of Breage 'within a Short Distance of the village... is a mine called Wheal Veor, in which upwards of 400 persons are daily employed, who till within these few weeks must have applied to the Helston Market that being their nearest...' The writer quotes an anonymous Notice issued advertising the Market in Breage on Saturdays (miners' pay day) 'no doubt set afoot by some of the principal Agents in the Mines who have sufficient influence over the Tinners to command their attendance at whatever Market they may think proper' A person was sent by a Committee of Helston tradespeople to spy out Breage Market and saw 'Butchers Gardeners Bakers and a shoemaker'.

  44. Parson (Thomas) Estates of AN ACT for Vesting Part of the settled Estate of Thomas Parson, Gentleman, and Honour, his Wife, in Trustees, to be sold for raising Portions for younger Children, and for laying out the Surplus, if any, in the Purchase of other Lands to be settled to the Uses of their Marriage-Settlement. 7pp, edges of paper ragged and brittle, disbound.     Concerns lands within the parishes of Crowan, Illogan, Manackan, Saint Ives, Endellion, Kea, Penzance, and Manor of Trecarrell.


  45. Penzance, Helston, Truro BILLS 21 bills with printed headings, 1891-3, sizes vary from small 8vo to 4to. Mostly made out to Mathews family of Marazion. Some headings very plain, others more decorative, such as one for J. Polglase, Furnishing Ironmongers, Falmouth, which illustrates firegrate, fender, range. Some with stab holes through heading. 1891-3. £35.00
    Includes John Toy, Meneage St. Iron and Brass Foundry, Helston; Camborne Posting Company; J. Bennetts, Colliery Agent, Penzance; Hill Grocers, Penzance.


  46. Perranarworthal PARTICULARS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE of Freehold Properties which Messrs. Johns & Hocking will offer for Sale by Auction.... Truro, the 29th day of July, 1902. Folio, 6pp., folded. Two large coloured folding plans. 1902. £35.00
    Concerns properties in parishes of Perranarworthal, Kea, Gwennap. Includes tenement of Chycoose, Cusgarne; tenement at Terrandean; Miners' Arms Inn, Higher Bissoe, part of Greenwith, etc. at Perranarworthal.


  47. Saint Keverne APPORTIONMENT OF THE RENT CHARGE IN LIEU OF TITHES in the Parish of Saint Keverne in the County of Cornwall. (xiii) + 59pp., large folio, lacks wraps. Printed in columns with Landowners, Occupiers, no. on Plan, Description, State of Cultivation, Quantity, Amount of Rent Charge. Wraps creased, front wrap ragged down right hand edge, pages dog-eared and dusty at corners, 3" tear in top margin throughout the volume. 1842 and 1844. £180.00
    Comprises three 'Schedules', 'Remainder of Lands', 'Summary'.

  49. St. Minver BOND OF AWARD of Charles Ivey of St. Minver yeomen to Michael Gummow, Blacksmith, for £500. 1p. folio. Good black seal with bust. Not signed. 1801. £17.00

  50. Stannary Administration AN ACT to make Provision for the better and more expeditious Administration of Justice in the Stannaries of Cornwall... 18pp, disbound. 1836. £13.00

  51. Stannary Court A BILL Intituled An Act to amend and extend the Jurisdiction of the Stannary Court. 19pp., on blue paper. 1855. £14.00

  52. Tresmeere A DIVISION made by Phillip Upton and Edmond Dodge of a tenement late in the tenure of John Launder of Tresmeere situate.... in Tresmeere consented to by John Speccott of Penheale and the said John Launder.... Bond of John Speccott whereby he consents to allow Launder enjoyment of his share. 1p., sm. folio, blank adjoining leaf with docket title. Sets out the partition of the property with lists of fields 'the boat Park' etc. Small wax seal, two diamond shaped damp stains obscuring a few words, ink slightly faded, but completely legible. 2nd Feb. 1672. £25.00

  53. Wendron RENTAL OF GWEALHELLIS AND CASTERILLS the property of the Representative of the late William & Henry Jenkin due Michaelmas 1912, 1913, 1914.... up to 1936. 10 double-page spreads, with columns for Tenements, Occupiers, Owners, Yearly Rent, Receipts etc. Folio, sewn in wraps with Ms title, wraps dusty, pages dog-eared with some dustmarking and a brown stain in the margin of some pages. 1912-36. £20.00

  54. Wendron TITHES 1895 Manuscript, size 18" x 11", printed in columns for Tenement, Occupier, Owner, Rent Charge apportioned, Receipts, Allowances etc., with entries in ink listing details for 387 occupiers. 15 double-page spreads, sewn, lacks wraps, some page corners curled. 1895. £50.00
    Tenements include Bodilly, Boskenwyn, Calvadnack, Combellack, Porkellis, Rame, Selina, Tregoose, Trussall.


  55. Wheal Medlyn STANNARIES OF CORNWALL In the Vice Warden's Court. Decress 'pro confesso' against Thomas Tresidder, Defendant, Thomas Phillips Tyacke, Francis Pender and other surviving partners of Henry Borlase deceased, plaintiff, 2 large folio pages, together with affadavit of service of a copy of the Decree, 1 small folio page, Stannary stamp. 1849. £24.00
    Tyacke's company has supplied goods to the mine, and were owed money by the Adventurers.

    Very attractive printing, with the word 'Land' in letters 2" high, shadowed and filled with an unusual tapestry style blocking.

    The school was founded in 1883, and lasted for 21 years. The castle was demolished.

Eden (William), Baron Auckland Statesman LETTER addressed to James Lambeth, Bedford Row, dated Eden Farm, Nov. 29, 1811, stating that he has agreed with Mr Dunn for the purchase of Mr. Boone's interest in a 'seat call'd Freelands near Bromley. My sister Mrs Moore is the purchaser' 4p, 4to, address panel with wax seal and fine postmark 'Two Py Post Unpaid Beckenham', and red oval postmark. The price was the large sum of 4000 guineas for the house and land and 1750 guineas for the furniture and other property, excluding livestock, plate, china and books. 1811. £30.00
    At the time of this letter Eden had retired from politics and diplomacy and was living quietly near Beckenham, but was apparently still an influence on Pitt, whose estate at Hayes was nearby.

The ship was insured at LLoyds Coffee House. This document relates to the sale of the ship to Rains. It is described as 'formerly called the Gerona captured by and condemned as Prize to His Majesties Ship Myrtle, Clement Sneyd Esq. Commander, now on her voyage to the Southern Fishery....' 13p. folio, plus dusty outer sheet with docket title, written with many amendments abbreviations and crossings out. Sir Edwin apparently borrowed large sums from Beale 'On 20th April 1816 Sir E.B. Sandys drew a Draft on me at 3 months for 500l, and which I at first refused to accept but which I was induced to accept... at the very particular request of Sir E...'
